Katherine Esther Scruse born on May 4th 1930 in Barbour County, Alabama Katherine was born to Prince Albert Screws and Martha Upshaw who married in 1929. Because of her polio, Katherine had to take equivalency courses and got her diploma. She and her sister Hattie grew up listening to country-western radio programs and were members of high school orchestra. Having a beautiful soprano voice, she used to sing and play piano and clarinet for her children, handing them down her musical ability.
