Shoppers at a Los Angeles bookstore got a fright on New Year's Eve when they spotted a hooded man with a surgical mask under an umbrella lurking amongst the shelves.
It was only after seeing his accompanying entourage and the paparazzi waiting outside they realised it was Michael Jackson on one of his 'incognito' shopping trips.
The self-proclaimed king of pop was completely covered up - bar his eyes and hands - as he perused the shop for picture books.
Wearing pyjamas, slippers and a long black coat, the 50-year-old cut a bizarre figure as he was followed around the store by his assistant, whose prime role appeared to be carrying an umbrella for Jackson.
Despite the obvious lack of rain or sunshine in the building, Jackson occasionally dipped under the shade of the umbrella, although what he was sheltering from exactly was anyone's guess.
Before updating his literary collection, Jackson had visited a doctor in Beverly Hills, a week after reports claimed he was seriously ill.
His choice of clothing and surgical mask did little to dispel recent rumours the superstar is suffering from ill health.

Michael Jackson steps out in a bandit mask: 13/12/2008...
Looking haunted and hunted Michael Jackson ventures out in public in a bizarre bandit mask.
The troubled king of pop shocked onlookers with his weirdest get-up yet.
This was no attempt at a stylish Zorro look but a freakish combination of blue tunic, lacy scarf, and black trilby.
Jacko, 50, appeared frail as a dwindling band of minders escorted him on a brief shopping trip in Beverley Hills.
The jaunt came as the star faces ruin after losing a fortune in court and being forced to place his beloved Neverland ranch up for sale to satisfy creditors.
An insider said: "Michael is a broken man. He is under the most strain he has ever been in his life.
"He looks haunted and his face is in ruin. It's such a sad fall from grace. He is barely recognisable as the king of pop He looked frail and scared.
"
The dad-of-three visited a Beverly Hills doctor on Thursday before instructing his entourage to take him shopping.
While out, Jacko was seen clutching a disc with the words The Jacksons Are Coming - the name of a Channel 4 documentary about the family's aborted attempt to move to Devon.
An insider said: "Michael had never been keen on rejoining the Jackson 5 but in this climate it seems he will do what it takes to make ends meet.
"
Last month he was forced to settle a £4.7million claim from a sheik who sued him over a record deal. The Arab claimed for gifts he gave the star including a £3.79 tub of ice cream.
Jacko has announced he will be selling off thousands of personal items in an auction next April. An insider said: "He is in despair right now.

Jackson settles High Court case: 23/11/2008....
Michael Jackson has made a settlement in principle in a legal dispute over claims he breached a music contract with an Arab sheikh.
He had been due to travel to the UK to give evidence at the High Court.
A spokesman said his legal team told him to postpone the trip as the parties had made an agreement in principle.
The King of Bahrain's son, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, was suing Jackson for £4.7m, claiming he reneged on a music contract.
Mr Jackson contested the claim, saying there was no valid agreement.
The BBC's Matthew Shaw was told Mr Jackson was about to board a flight to the UK when he was told to postpone the trip.
'Personal relationship'
Sheikh Abdulla said he paid all the singer's living, travel and other expenses until his departure from Bahrain in 2006, and advanced funds to retain legal and financial advisers.
Mr Jackson claimed the payments were "gifts".
The Thriller star was invited with his children and entourage to Bahrain, shortly after he was acquitted of child molestation charges in California.
While there, the sheikh lavished money on him.
Sheikh Abdulla also built a recording studio, which he believed would be used to record albums using material he had helped to write.
However Mr Jackson apparently pulled out of the deal in May 2006 after 11 months and has not seen the sheikh since.
Now Sheikh Abdulla says he wants nothing more to do with him and is suing to get his money back.
At the start of the hearing which began last week, Mr Jackson's lawyer, Robert Englehart QC, applied for the star to give his evidence by video link from Los Angeles because of concerns about his health.
But the application was withdrawn after medical experts said Mr Jackson was fit enough to travel.

Michael Jackson's former assistant says Bahraini sheik was a generous friend: 21/11/2008...
LONDON - Michael Jackson's former personal assistant told a British court Friday that a Bahraini sheik who is now suing the singer was a generous friend, eager to give Jackson money and other gifts.
Grace Rwaramba said Sheik Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa referred to Jackson as his brother and frequently offered the singer gifts and money.
"He would say, 'What can I do for my brother?' 'What can I give the children?' " Rwaramba said. "Mr. Jackson had a back pain and he told me to get Tiger Balm for him."
Rwaramba, who also was nanny to Jackson's three children, said she considered the sheik's behaviour "sweet."
She was testifying as a defence witness in a $7 million US lawsuit brought against Jackson by Al Khalifa, the second son of the king of Bahrain. The sheik says Jackson reneged on a contract to produce an album, a candid autobiography and a stage play after accepting millions in advances. Jackson claims the money was a gift.
The money at issue includes sums of $35,000 and $1 million paid into Rwaramba's bank account by the sheik. Rwaramba said the money was intended for Jackson, who did not have a bank account of his own.
Rwaramba said she was "flabbergasted" when she received the first payment of $35,000, which she considered a large sum.
She said the sheik "apologized that it was a little. He said next time it would be more."
The court heard that Al Khalifa paid for hotel rooms for Jackson and his entourage and trips to Toys R Us to buy Christmas presents for the singer's guests.
Rwaramba said the sheik never suggested any of money would have to be paid back.
Jackson, 50, and the 33-year-old sheik first made contact when the pop star was fending off accusations of child molestation in California and Al Khalifa offered to help him. Once Jackson was cleared of the charges in June 2005, Al Khalifa invited him to the small, oil-rich Gulf kingdom to escape the media spotlight.
Al Khalifa says he gave Jackson millions of dollars in all to help shore up his finances and subsidize Jackson's lifestyle in Bahrain - including more than $300,000 for a "motivational guru."
Al Khalifa, an amateur songwriter, says the pair even moved into the same palace to work on music together.
But Jackson dropped the project in 2006, leaving Bahrain and pulling out of the contract. Jackson's lawyers are arguing that the musician wasn't bound by the deal because the contract was signed on behalf of 2 Seas Records, a venture which never got off the ground.
Jackson is due to take the witness stand at London's High Court on Monday. His lawyers had asked for him to give evidence by video link from the U.S., citing an unspecified medical condition.
But lawyer Robert Englehart told the judge on Thursday that Jackson's doctors had cleared him to travel.

MSNBC:At 50, what’s left for Michael Jackson: 29/08/2008...
At 50, what’s left for Michael Jackson? It’s time for the pop star to come out of seclusion and start making music.
Michael Jackson turns 50 on Friday. What do you get for the man who has everything, including a killer discography, a couple of sexual assault accusations, at least one white glove, a sprawling ranch teetering on foreclosure, a family that can only be described as indescribable, and a button nose that often looks unbuttoned?
Reaching The Big Five-Oh is a profound event in every life. But for Michael, it represents a fork in his moonwalking path. One direction will take him to his own personal neverland, as in never be seen or heard from again. The other will lead him back to stardom and his rightful place atop the pop throne.
Which way will he go? Now that he’s 50, will he make it to 60? And what will he be like if he does?
Odds are that Michael will continue to be strange. He isn’t exactly a Brooks Brothers country club kind of guy. You won’t find him holding court in a red leather booth at some swanky steakhouse, regaling his pals with bawdy tales of ladies he has loved and left. He is more likely to be seated in a wheelchair for no apparent reason, covered from head to toe in colorful silk scarves and cheesecloth, a veil drawn across his face, being led from one palatial bunker to another.
His eccentricities will likely stick around, but can they be managed better? Can he put the brakes on a descent into isolation so that when he does hit 60 he won’t make the late Howard Hughes seem gregarious by comparison?
Connect with fans First step: End the seclusion. Michael wants to get away from all the prying eyes — especially in the aftermath of his acquittal in his 2005 sexual assault case that threatened to put him in the slammer. What Michael has now is a different kind of prison, one of his own making. Whether he’s in a residence 50 miles outside of Las Vegas or at his pad in Bower or someplace else, he’s not connecting with his public. And in show business, either you’re embracing your fans or pushing them away; there is no middle ground.
There was talk that Michael would do an extended stay at a Las Vegas casino, like the ones that have been done by Celine Dion and Elton John. But nothing has happened. It’s just another Bigfoot sighting. Yet such an engagement would place him back in the public eye again and remind people why there is such a fuss about the first 50 years of Michael Jackson’s life.
Michael should do a series of interviews with high-profile media figures like Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, Regis and Kelly, even — gulp! — David Letterman. Not just one creepy glimpse into Michael’s inner darkness by Martin Bashir, but a bunch of normal, regular, spill-your-guts sit-downs with celebrity journos and talk-show hosts.
As a rule of thumb, it’s probably better for an entertainer to limit his or her exposure to the media (see: Tom Cruise) and leave a little mystery. With Michael, the exact opposite is necessary. The longer he stays out of the spotlight, the weirder he becomes in the imaginations of the public.
Make some new music Michael could also use a new CD, something that embraces his R&B/soul roots but also incorporates the latest in hip-hop/pop/rock. He has the money to hire the best songwriters and the finest producers.
A report in London’s Daily Telegraph says Michael has teamed with David Gest, Liza Minnelli’s ex-, to record a pop album that puts a 21st century twist on the poems of Robert Burns. Yet the pedigree and the concept don’t sound likely to threaten “Thriller. ”
What seems to have been missing for Michael is motivation, and there’s nothing better to stoke the fires for a performer than to get in front of audiences, feel the feedback and the love, and remember why he is so popular in the first place. A few rousing shows could push him to record fresh new material that isn’t based on moldy 18th-century poetry.
Perhaps Michael is so reluctant to get out there in the spotlight because he feels burned. He is a fragile, trusting soul. Michael probably doesn’t want to face the same glare from the media that he experienced during his trial. But the alternative is to sit around doing nothing while allowing his odd reputation to grow and fester.
If Michael doesn’t take the initiative to reinvent himself now that he has hit 50, the celebration for his 60th won’t be a very joyous occasion. By that time, he’ll be living in a penthouse somewhere, the drapes drawn.
Here’s wishing a sincere and heartfelt 50th birthday to Michael Jackson, a music industry and pop culture icon as well as one of the strangest cats to come down the pike in many moons. In the countdown to his 60th, let’s hope fans remember much more of the former and much less of the latter.

Michael King of Dance: 29/08/2008..
Contactmusic. com has today ran an article entitled ‘Jackson Reigns King Of Dance World’.
The article is extremely positive and speaks to of “generations of dancers aspiring to mimic” Michael. To read the full article Below:
MICHAEL JACKSON - JACKSON REIGNS KING OF DANCE WORLD:
MICHAEL JACKSON's moonwalk has left generations of dancers aspiring to mimic his famous moves, according to the world's top choreographers.
Jackson began his takeover as the King of Pop when he launched his solo career in the early 1970s, prompting a string of dance hits and an earth-shaking impact on the dance world.
Legendary choreographer Brian Thomas' work with Jackson for his 30th anniversary TV special earned him an Emmy nomination when the network hosted the two-hour honour in 2001.
And Thomas is convinced the star is still at the top of his game, insisting: "Michael Jackson is the definition of entertainment. "
Jazz choreographer Ginger Cox adds: "Michael Jackson has inspired so many choreographers. His music has been played and danced to in studios for decades. Michael Jackson and dance go hand in hand. " The pair, who teach their Jackson-inspired steps at New York's Broadway Dance Center, have sent flocks of students migrating to the studio, eager to imitate Jackson's classic moves.
International Program Director Bonnie Erickson says: "I am struck again and again by Michael Jackson's influence on dancers around the world - so many of our applicants cite him as the reason they started dancing.
"The fact that his influence has lasted in this context as long as it has is truly extraordinary. "

Masked Michael’s newest trick:A trip to Nathan Burton’s show: 03/08/2008....
Its another rare sighting on the Strip. Pop-royal Michael Jackson created his own illusion on Saturday, when he took his children to the Nathan Burton magic show at the Flamingo- but no way he could magically disguise himself from one of our eagle-eyed Luxe Life fans.
Looking like a wizard in his own right Michael showed up in the hooded cloak, baseball cap, facial mask and sunglasses - and six members of a security detail.
Michael pulled his own sleight-of-hand moves by slipping into the main showroom at the Flamingo from the executives parking garage, through a tunnell, and went unrecolgnized as he took his VIP booth seconds after the lights darkened as the curtain went up!
The "prince of prestidigitation" superstar politely turned down offers of soft drinks and candies in place of popcorn he wanted but wasn't avaiilable - and said he couldn't pose for photos with Nathan or his cast because of the disguise.
He went backstage after the show and complimented the conjuror and told him the children- Prince, Paris and Blanket- loved all the tricks and illusions and they'd return to see it again.

Billie Jean" voted top dance song: 16/7/2008....
Michael Jackson's song Billie Jean has been voted the greatest dance record of all time by BBC Radio 2 listeners.
Written by Jackson, and co-produced by Quincy Jones, the track won two Grammy awards and went to the top of the UK charts in 1983.
The poll, revealed in a three-part series presented by Zoe Ball, was part of a Radio 2 dance music season.
"I'm delighted that Billie Jean has been voted the greatest dance record ever made," said Ball.
"This is Jackson at his best. This track is way up there for me - Jackson's rendition of it at the Motown 25th anniversary sho w has got to be one of the great live performances of all time.
"The bassline is awesome, the production is killer. It's just perfect.
"
The beginning of Jackson's Billie Jean is instantly recognisable because of the first few drum beats in the introduction.
Sound engineer Bruce Swedien said Jackson asked for the song to have "the greatest sonic personality that you can possibly put on a track - starting with the drums".
A panel of music experts, including DJs Trevor Nelson and Danny Rampling, drew up a shortlist of 20 records, which were then voted for by listeners online.
The songs, dated from 1966 to 2001, were selected for their "musical merit, and importance in the narrative of UK dance music".

Jeffrey Daniel Defends Michael Jackson: 12/05/2008...
Jeffrey Daniel, an US dancer, choreographer and singer of the soul vocal group Shalamar, heavily defended Michael Jackson in an interview to the British The Voice. Daniel was involved in the Michael Jackson videos 'BAD' and 'Smooth Criminal' and served as a dance consultant on 'Ghosts'.
In the interview, Jeffrey Daniel said that he knows that Michael Jackson did not molest any children, that he did not deserve the ‘wacko Jacko’ label, and should not be portrayed as a child molester. He explained that he has watched Michael Jackson do many kind things for underprivileged children dying from multiple sclerosis, cancer and other terminal illnesses.
“I stayed at Neverland. I saw what is there. I saw the kids who were staying there, it just doesn’t add up. It doesn’t make sense. As far as I know, he’s not that type of person.
Michael does not tell people, but I have seen what he does. His greatest crime is his humanitarianism and his humility. It backfires on him and these people have gone after him.
I just feel sorry that he’s such an open hearted person - that he didn’t grow a much harder shell earlier.
Isn’t it odd that the media can be so forgiving of people who are in rehabilitation, people who have been convicted and gone to jail? I just think it’s unfair that the media paint such a negative picture of a person who was not found guilty.
Daniel is performing the hit records and dances which made him famous at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London (UK) on May 17, 2008.
Refering to debates over whether Michael Jackson actually learned the moonwalk from him, Daniel added:
“That is between the fans. Michael Jackson and I have nothing but love and respect for each other. I never feel slighted by Michael’s achievement with the dance because he’s one of my dance brothers.

Michael Jackson - Sony Furious Over Jacksons Chart: 21/02/2008..
Michael Jackson's Thriller album is technically number two on this week's Billboard charts but it won't be credited as such due to a technicality.
According to New York's Daily News, even though Jackson's 25th anniversary album sold 166,000 copies this week, according to Nielsen's SoundScan, Billboard categorized the album as a catalogue- or oldies album, making it uneligible for inclusion in the Billboard 200.
Jackson's label, Sony, argues that this should not be the case because in addition to classic hits like "Billie Jean" and "Beat It," the album also contains six new songs.
One label source explains, "Michael went into the studio and recorded with Kanye West, Fergie, Akon, Will.i.Am - and there's a brand-new song from Michael, and videos. It beat Grammy winners Amy Winehouse and Herbie Hanthingy, with 167,000 crossing the counter. Yet for reasons unfathomable to folks in the music industry, Billboard has decided to relegate it to the catalogue chart. Catalogue makes it look like the same ol' same ol', but with a "new cover."
According to Billboard chart expert, Geoff Mayfield, "We were approached by Sony and Sony BMG to consider 'Thriller 25' as a current album. But we had to be consistent with hundreds, if not thousands, of reissues that have come to the market. There have actually been new issues of classic albums that include even more new material. We didn't just make the decision on our own. We contacted major retailers [like Wal-Mart and Best Buy], and that was the consensus."
Still Mayfield adds that Jackson should find comfort in knowing, "It's the largest sum for an album on the catalogue chart to be sold in 10 years."

MJ: The Kings News Clothes: 15/02/2008...
Bad and dangerous! That’s the image Michael Jackson wants to project for his big comeback — as these designs show. The “gangster chic” look was created by costumer-to-the-stars Andre Van Pier, whose outfits Michael sported in videos and TV specials in the ’80s and ’90s. “This is the style Michael is leaning toward when he gets back on stage,” Van Pier tells PageSix.com. WWE: Thriller’s Influence In World Wrestling Entertainment: 13/02/2008...
I would play the entire song up until that point. Then I would turn it off, because that guy scared me,” admitted Maria.
That’s not the only influence the song – or the album – had on Raw’s beautiful Diva, or several other WWE Superstars. From Michael “P.S.” Hayes’ in-ring moonwalk, to WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz’s fedora, to Maria oftentimes sporting a single glove, Jackson’s Thriller has held a place in sports-entertainment lore for the past quarter-century – a milestone which the greatest selling album in music history celebrates this week with the release of Thriller 25.
Thriller25: Entertainment Weekly Interviews Quincy Jones: 08/02/2008..
Quincy Jones could use a day off. Twenty-five years after producing Michael Jackson's Thriller, at an age when some might be settling into a peaceful retirement, the 74-year-old music-biz legend stays busy crisscrossing the globe for various philanthropic projects. ''I'm so tired of these planes, man!'' Jones kids. ''I'm going to go to Brazil tomorrow. It's ridiculous.'' During a rare free moment at his Bel Air, Calif., home, Jones chatted with EW.com about this month's deluxe Thriller anniversary edition, his most recent visit with Michael Jackson, and whether the music industry is too far gone to be saved.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How do you feel when you look back at Thriller, 25 years later? QUINCY JONES: I can't believe it's that long ago. When I go to Shanghai or Cairo or wherever, it's shocking to see that they're still playing it all over the world 25 years later. It's an honor to me.
When you were in the studio recording that music, did you ever imagine it would be that timeless? You don't think about that kind of stuff when you make records. You want it to be played next week! [Laughs] It's astounding. I picked one of the most incredible teams in the world, the guys that I worked with — [songwriter] Rod Temperton and [engineer] Bruce Swedien and [keyboardist] Greg Phillinganes and [horns/strings arranger] Jerry Hey — it was a divine situation. Everybody had this incredible respect and love and affection for each other. A team that is real honest with each other, that's the key. Because there's nothing in the world like getting a group of guys [like this] around.... I've seen a lot of people [whose] friends and cousins tell them everything they do is perfect. That's a big mistake.
Have you listened to the whole Thriller album start to finish in one sitting recently? God, no. I haven't done that in 20 years.
Why not? I have it in my system in my home, but I'm not going to sit there attentively listening to every song. We had a lot of music out in the '80s and the '70s. So it's never been a situation where I just sit down. Maybe I will one day, when I get time. Just sit down and relax and count the blessings, really. Because that's what they are.... Michael came by here the other day.
What was that visit like? It was great. We just hung out and talked. It was nice to see him. He came with [attorney] Peter Lopez. I hadn't seen him in a long time.
What kind of things did you talk about? He told me that they were doing some remixes [of songs from Thriller] and so forth. Somebody sent it to me, and they're fantastic. Akon worked on one, will.i.am did one. They were beautiful.
Some people think it's almost blasphemy to remix Thriller. Look, man, stuff happens. What happens happens, right? Lord knows, Thriller's certainly had its time, and it still does. It's still doing whatever it's supposed to do, which is shocking in itself. I think the way the record business is now, it'll never happen again.
Why do you say that? It was the very beginning of MTV, back when MTV wasn't even playing black music. In a way, Michael and MTV rode each other to glory, in terms of establishing the format for videos. I still see every day, videos that were made last month that look just like the videos that he made 25 years ago. It's amazing. And, you know, everything grows. It has its natural evolution and it evolves. When you've been in the music business this long, nothing surprises you. I started back with 78 [rpm] records — that's how long I've been in the business.
NEXT PAGE: ''I like it best when there's no time for paralysis from analysis. We ended up making Thriller in eight weeks, the entire album. We didn't have time to think about all that intellectual stuff.''
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Do you think the music business will eventually recover from where it is now? QUINCY JONES: Who the hell knows? I think the passion for music is as high as ever. I think the distribution system is a disaster, totally flawed. It's a misunderstanding between Silicon Valley and the corporate bean counters at the record companies. And I don't think anybody knows what to do. Binary numbers are not new — they had binary numbers in Egypt, in 3500 B.C. That's still what drives all the high-tech stuff: permutations of zeros and ones. Once you get into the area of a CD or a DVD, you're handing your customer a smoking gun, 'cause it has the same power as a master. You couldn't do that with vinyl — vinyl would wear out and they'd have to buy another copy. It's changed so much. The technologies ran by the record business. The genie's out of the bottle, never to return. That's what I think. What do I know? I'm old-school, man! [Laughs]
Michael's also been recording an all-new album of his own. As someone who's collaborated with him closely, where would you like to see him go with his music? I don't know. Right now, I haven't been concentrating on that. I've been involved in a lot of things, mainly my foundation — running all over the world, trying to figure out what to do about these kids that are having a real difficult time in Cambodia, Rwanda, the favelas, Katrina, everywhere. I care about that more than anything in the world. I'm going to be 75 this year. At that age, you've got to come up with some big solutions.
Given all that, would you say music is in the past for you? God, no. Are you kidding me? People couldn't live two days without music. It's powerful stuff, man. It's the only thing in the world that engages the left and right Bower simultaneously, emotion and intellect. Can you imagine one month with no music at all, not one note? You'd go out of your mind.
What about you personally, though? What would get you excited about making music again? I'm going to. I'm working with Snoop Dogg, Joe Pesci...Tony Bennett called me a while ago, to do an album with him and Stevie Wonder. Music's always going to be a part of my life, man. I don't even know how to drive, so I guess I was born to do that.
Can you tell me anything else about those projects? What are they going to sound like? I don't know. I just listen to God's whispers and when it's time to go, just go. I like it best when there's no time for paralysis from analysis. We ended up making Thriller in eight weeks, the entire album. We didn't have time to think about all that intellectual stuff. It's about blink! Malcolm Gladwell was absolutely right. You realize that we are all vehicles for a higher power to express what this is about. Music is a strange element of the planet, really. You can't see it, taste it, touch it, smell it — but you sure can feel it. Since I was 12 years old, all I've ever wanted to do is orchestrate, arrange, compose, and so forth. And most people are serious about their music. That's where it comes from. Mozart was not worried about making money off of music, you know. Money and bling-bling and Benjamins and all that stuff ain't about nothing. When we came up, we couldn't care, 'cause our idols were the raggediest dudes in the world.
Maybe these changes in the industry will help bring people back to what's important about music, then. Yes. It's interesting to watch, though, isn't it? Especially when you get older. You start to have a different perspective on what it's really all about. I've been blessed enough, man, to work with almost everybody in the last 55 years of American music. It's a huge blessing.

Thriller25: Rolling Stone Review: 08/02/2008...
Thriller is the sound of Michael Jackson in 1982, when he was the coolest, slinkiest, prettiest pop star alive. He was Boy George times Rick James and beat both of them at their games, although he did nothing but make the competition sound even better. He taught Boy George fans and Rick James fans to hear each other's music, just as he taught Van Halen, Lionel Richie, ZZ Top, Stevie Nicks and Bruce Springsteen to play to this grand new pop-thrills audience he'd called to the floor. After this, nobody claimed disco sucked again. "Billie Jean" was the hit, with MJ's voice aching with erotic longing and dread, and nearly five minutes of creepy strings and seductive bass and breathy gasps, though there wasn't a station on the dial that faded the song out early. "Beat It" was the one designed to get on rock radio — but "Billie Jean" got there first, since the rock stations played it, along with the rest of the world. They couldn't resist that bass. Who could?
Thriller has been the world's favorite pop album ever since, and this deluxe expanded edition shows why, even with six lame new remixes from artists like Fergie, Akon and Kanye West, as well as the mediocre ballad "For All Time," a rerecorded outtake from the original sessions, tacked on. The twenty-fifth-anniversary edition is like the I'm Not There soundtrack: All the new artists sound cowed by the originals, and they know nobody will ever play their versions twice. Even Kanye can tell he's in over his head, so he sends "Billie Jean" out there without the bass line, which is like putting Bobby Orr on the ice without a hockey stick. And in an early fast-track contender for the year's most pointless musical moment, there's Fergie's "Beat It 2008." How funky and strong is her fight?
Akon's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" is actually kind of great — he slows it down into a piano ballad, lingering over the easily obscured lyrics. Paul McCartney doesn't show for "The Girl Is Mine 2008," but that would be a sore subject anyway. (What can it mean that the music on "The Girl Is Mine" was played by the guys from Toto, who had that song about Rosanna Arquette — who has recently been linked to McCartney?) Instead we get Will.i.am, whose idea of production is dumb-thug bluster and trying to hide the goofy "doggone" hook, which is the whole point of the song, dude. "The Girl Is Mine" without "doggone" is like "Same Girl" without the Waffle House. Note: Though MJ's original vocals are on here, Jackson himself doesn't participate much in the new versions, showing previously well-hidden instincts of self-preservation.
So that leaves the original Thriller, which hasn't lost any of its fizz. One of the funny things about the album is that even though it's as close as you can get to timeless, it really only could have happened in 1982. That was a watershed year for pop music, with New Wave synth pop and disco feeding into each other, the year of Madonna's "Everybody" and George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and the Human League's "Don't You Want Me" and Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing." Jackson got this whole era grooving a few years earlier with Off the Wall, but at the end of 1982, right when everybody was still reeling from Prince's 1999, he dropped Thriller and shocked everyone. Madonna made her own version of "Billie Jean," retitled "Like a Virgin." Stevie Nicks called her version "Stand Back," Pat Benatar called hers "Love Is a Battlefield." Bob Dylan called his "Tight Connection to My Heart." Yet none of them could touch the original.
Thriller has MJ at his breathiest and most salacious ("PYT"), and his most beautifully fragile ("Human Nature," so open and brave it makes "She's Out of My Life" seem phony). The one hit that sounds tired now is "Thriller," killed off by the video, with its bid for middlebrow respectability. ("Billie Jean" and "Beat It" are great videos — "Thriller" is just a crap John Landis movie.) But the wiggly bass that kicks off the album in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " feels like the sound of MJ's soul, and you can hear it all over his voice. (A big hand for bassist Louis Johnson, please, who also played on "Billie Jean.") By the time he came back with Bad, the wiggle was gone from his bass and his voice. Yet the weirdest thing about Michael Jackson will always be that he gave the world this work of genius.

Jackson's New Pepsi Advert For The Superbowl: 03/02/2008...
It's supposed to be top secret - but Akon is giving out a tidbit of information about the rumoured ad that Michael Jackson is doing for the Super Bowl.
"We just did a commercial - it's a Pepsi commercial. He actually involved me in it so I feel like I'm a part of that process," Akon told The Associated Press on Friday at Maxim's pre-Super Bowl bash.
Jackson is releasing a 25th anniversary edition of his bestselling album "Thriller" on Feb. 12, featuring acts like Akon, Kanye West and Fergie on remix editions of that historic disc's songs.
"It's really moreso Mike picking a lot of the acts that he liked and admired today, and kind of getting them the big songs that they like and reinventing it like it was their own," he explained. "Everyone has their own taste of how that would have been."
It's been reported that an ad for the CD will be featured during the Super Bowl. But while Akon did confirm a commercial does exist, he was closed-mouthed when asked how to describe it.
"Oh, he might kill me," Akon laughed about Jackson. "But it's gonna be funny. You're going to love it. He's not even in it. But it's crazy. I want to tell you so bad!"
Akon was a surprise performer with singer-rapper T-Pain at the Maxim event, one of dozens of soirees happening in the Phoenix area for Super Bowl week. But Akon, best known for songs like "I Wanna Love You" and "Don't Matter," wasn't planning on taking part in the party madness.
"At every big event, it's always the same excitement," Akon said. "Right now I'm so focused ... about trying to take over, I don't focus on the party side."

MJ at the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas: 01/02/2008...
MJ at the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas... Not sure if it was today( 1st Feb 2008) or on the 31st...
The children of pop star Michael Jackson have been pictured for the first time without their customary disguises on a family outing in Las Vegas. The 49-year-old singer usually keeps Prince Michael I, 10, Paris, nine and Prince Michael II, five, under wraps for fear of a potential kidnap. But the family were spotted dressed in trainers and baseball caps on an outing to see a 90-minute show by ventriloquist Ronn Lucas at the Luxor Casino. Jackson's party of seven left the show by a side exit before walking through the arcade area. Jackson kept himself hidden under a hood, scarf and huge pair of sunglasses while Prince and Paris roamed free without their familiar veils. Only Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket, was kept concealed by a nanny who pulled a hood over his face.
their are two more pics, one of Prince and Paris and one of Paris by herself.but wont be showin these out of respect for michael..

Video: Wyclef Claims MJ Owes Him Money: 20/01/2008....
Wyclef is world renowned as a producer, but he is also an accomplished business man and the Haiti-born rapper has charged that pop star Michael Jackson owes him money.
The revelation came from the rapper/producer during a stop in Sweden.
After being asked if he was jealous of Akon and Will.I.Am, who have recently recorded with Michael Jackson, ‘Clef revealed his thoughts to Kim Halling of The Voice TV.
"I was in the studio with Mike. Michael owes me money. Mike holla at me. You know the money that you owe me. You know what it is," Wyclef said into the camera.
Halling attempted to query Wyclef further on the nature of the debut, to no avail.
"I was in the studio, I’m very tough in the studio. And I feel like…I definitely wanna do some stuff with Mike. I played him some stuff.. Mike you know what it is, holla at me," the rapper stated, before stopping as he appeared to Bower to reveal how Jackson owes him money.
Wyclef explained that he actually worked with Jackson circa 1997.
"I went in the studio with Mike. As a producer, when I go in, I’m very specific. Like when you go in the studio with me, you’re not Michael Jackson, I’m not Wyclef Jean. You know, it’s like a coach and a player. So, you gotta trust that the producer is gonna give you want he gotta give you."
The rapper explained why he continually spoke to the beleaguered pop sensation though the camera.
"Mike is always looking. Don’t sleep on Mike," he said.

MJ: Reason For Vegas Stay Revealed: 20/01/2008...
MICHAEL JACKSONS NEW ALBUMS
Its no longer the secret I promised not to reveal! No sooner did Luxe Life post our exclusive story about pop-prince Michael Jackson hiding out in a Vegas hotel as he gets ready for a comeback tour and a new album release than all my respected rivals revealed hes holed up at George Maloofs Palms hotel resort.
So now I feel I can tell you another secret I also promised not to reveal: the reason Michael has hardly been seen around the casino property is because hes been using the exclusive stars-only elevator. It connects him with private passageways to access the hotels Pearl theater, its recording studio and a hidden rear entrance for limousines all well away from the prying eyes of overly enthusiastic fans and paparazzi!
The secret tactics kept Michaels 30-day stay there almost a total secret until our exclusive report prompted the other gossip gurus to name the hotel! Michael has been working not only on the remixes and re-mastering of the new Thriller 25 album being released early February to mark the 25th anniversary of his original Thriller blockbuster. Hes also been winding up the tracks of another album that he started two years ago when he was staying overseas in the oil-rich kingdom of Dubai and the calmer pastures of Ireland. Its set for release to tie in with a series of 30 concerts hes hoping to stage in England this Spring at Londons prestigious 02 Arena. If the deal is completed he’s expected to earn a cool $1 million a night per show for a total of $30 million and hes hoping it will top Princes recent 21 concert run there. Im also reliably told that Michael has been getting his vocal strengths back to full blast while working out at the Palms recording studios

Interview with former bodyguard: 16/01/2008...
There is an interview with Michael Jackson's former bodyguard Matt Fiddes in todays Sun.
CURRY, Bruce Lee movies and shopping - it isn't hard to amuse Michael Jackson according to his UK bodyguard.
Having minded the megastar on several occasions, Matt Fiddes insists the King of Pop doesn't live in Neverland - and is proud to count him as a personal friend.
When Matt's mum was battling breast cancer, the former Jackson Five frontman even called her regularly to cheer her up.
And despite the child abuse allegations which have dogged the singer for years, dad-of-five Matt had no qualms about his kids meeting the troubled megastar.
Matt, 28, says: "Michael must be the most misunderstood man in the world.
"He is such a nice guy behind closed doors.
"Once you get to know him, you see that - but for most people his huge international profile tends to get in the way.
"Michael definitely wants to keep the mystery going.
"It's like a game to him.
"He knows he can go out and be photographed and the photos will be used worldwide.
"During a visit to London in 2002, Michael took my stepsons, Archie and Charlie, on a shopping trip to Hamleys toy store.
"He's a great guy and I didn't have any problem with it.
"It sounds like a dream come true to most kids, but the boys were too shy to choose anything expensive.
"They came home with just a few bits and pieces."
As a schoolboy in Swindon, Matt was mercilessly bullied, and turned to martial arts to protect himself.
But now he's a strapping 6'3" and heads a network of martial arts schools throughout the UK and Europe, as well as bodyguarding the rich and famous part-time.
Matt says: "When you're a shy, skinny little boy and the other lads decide to pick on you, there's not a lot you can do.
"I wanted to beat the bullies and decided to take up Tae Kwon Do.
Click here to find out more!
"It quickly gave me back my confidence, and within three or four years I'd progressed to black belt standard.”
Matt wasn’t the academic type, and left school at 16 with no official qualifications.
But thanks to lots of grit and determination he opened his first school in Barnstaple in January 1998, and had signed 500 members within six months.
As Matt's venture took off, so did his profile.
He was approached to take part in a fitness video alongside mystical performer Uri Geller - the man who would introduce him to Michael Jackson.
Matt says: "One night Uri called me at 2am and said 'You have to come to my house now, or you'll regret it for the rest of your life.'
"I made the three hour trip from Devon to Sonning-on-Thames, Berkshire.
‘ My jaw dropped when I watched Martin Bashir's documentary at Uri's house ’
"I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into Uri's living room and Michael Jackson was sitting there on the sofa.
"Michael mentioned he was looking for a bodyguard in the UK and asked me to keep in touch.
"From then on I was his bodyguard on trips to the UK."
Left hand man ... Matt with Mike
Left hand man ... Matt with Mike
Amazingly, Matt was present at the Renaissance Hotel in London in 2002 when Martin Bashir pitched jackson the idea for his famous documentary.
When Living With Michael Jackson aired the following year it caused a storm on both sides of the Atlantic for shocking insinuations about the star's private life, and subsequently for the show's allegedly biased editing.
Matt says: "Martin told Michael it would be the best thing he could do for his career.
"It was supposed to be about the music and Mike's children were to be kept out of the final cut.
"Of course it was nothing of the sort and my jaw dropped when I watched the show at Uri's house.”
During filming for Martin Bashir's documentary, Matt got to experience life with the showbiz legend.
And he ended up acting as a michael decoy so the squeaky-voiced singer could avoid the press.
Matt says: "Michael would come up with elaborate plans to escape the crowds.
"He asked me to dress up like him to distract the fans and he would sneak out the back door.
‘ I had to pinch myself when I was sitting on the floor with the King of Pop eating a curry and watching Bruce Lee movies ’
"He produced white socks, a military-style jacket and sunglasses for me to put on.
"The US security team of four bodyguards came with me through the front of the hotel.
"People were grabbing my hands and talking to me as if I was their hero.
"Meanwhile Michael snuck out the back with one bodyguard and had about 20 minutes of hassle-free browsing before he was recognised.
"Another time, Michael and I ordered a takeaway curry and escaped to Uri's house in Berkshire.
"I had to pinch myself when I was sitting on the floor with the King of Pop eating a curry and watching Bruce Lee movies."
Despite the excitement of looking after a global megastar, Matt's memory of the time is tinged with sadness.
During the same period his mum, Majella Norris, was diagnosed with breast cancer and given just six months to live.
But when Matt confided in michael, the star didn't waste any time giving his stricken mum a call.
Matt says: "That really touched me.
"Michael's a very sensitive human being and he'd ring my mum every day to see how she was coping.
“He makes a big impression on everyone, and she really appreciated his best wishes.
In shape ... Matt
In shape ... Matt
"Thankfully Mum pulled through and is loving her retirement."
Michael is currently based in Las Vegas, but Matt is kept busy with other celebrity clients including jackson's brother Jermaine and the model Danielle Lloyd.
Meanwhile his martial arts training business continues to grow.
Matt says: "It's amazing to think that ten years ago I was penniless and opened the account for Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School with just £100.
"A few weeks ago the empire was valued at £30m.
"Here I am at 28 with a great business and Michael Jackson as a client and personal friend."

More news:
Carlos Santana to work with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones
Legendary Guitarist Carlos Santana recently appeared Thursday night on Mas Vale Tarde con Alex Cambert on the Telemundo Television channel along with his son Salvador Santana whose also a musician like his pops, were interviewed on the show. Carlos Santana rarely conducts TV interviews so I definitely had to watch. I didn’t know he worked with Bob Dylan and Bob Marley, which he said that he smoked and got high with them a few times back in the day when they made music together.
Carlos also spoke about how his father taught him from a young age to play the violin; his father showed him an example about how powerful music is by pointing at a tree where a bird was singing and his father played from his violin some music notes back and fore with the bird he went. He then realized his true passion was playing the guitar to reach the masses through his music. But what surprised me from the interview is when he spoke about working again with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. I never thought Michael and Quincy were going to make up and do another album together again but Carlos said this on national TV. I’ll believe it when the album actually drops. –Edwin Diaz, So Hood Magazine, SoHood.com

Still a Thriller - 25 Years & Counting: 09/01/2008...
Any true pop culture aficionado knows the importance of Michael Jackson and the significance of his exceptional and everlasting contribution to music, videos, and even fashion.
There's something wonderful to be said about the feel of an old-school cardboard album jacket. Wrapped in plastic and requiring two hands to hold, it's like a special gift you can't wait to open. And what exactly might you find tucked inside in addition to a shiny new vinyl LP? Perhaps bonus photos of your favorite musical artist. Maybe a pullout poster. Or, better still, a lyrics sheet, making it possible for you to sing the actual words of the song, instead of making up your own.
Back in the early 1980s, I remember staring for hours on end at Michael Jackson's legendary Thriller album cover. I'd sit and listen to the entire LP from beginning to end, from "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" right through to "Lady in My Life." Even though I was only seven years old, I knew the words to each and every song by heart (thanks for including those lyrics, MJ). And while singing, I'd often find myself daydreaming about what my life would be like if only I knew Michael, if only he'd become my friend and fall madly in love with me and then ask me to be his wife... if only... Well, looking back now, I can clearly see how incredibly naïve my ideas were about any type of romance with Michael. Nevertheless, though, I stand by my youthful observations when it comes to the man's talent. He was, and still is, a once in a lifetime, rare and unique musical genius whose gifts continue to influence and inspire generations.
Fast-forward 25 years to December 1, 2007. That date marked a huge milestone in pop music history, as well as this modern day MTV generation, because on that very day back in 1982, Michael Jackson blessed us with his musical masterpiece appropriately titled Thriller. Indeed, what a thriller it was and still remains. The album is by far the biggest selling of all time, with worldwide sales reaching upward of 104 million copies.
Any true pop culture aficionado knows the importance of Michael Jackson and the significance of his exceptional and everlasting contribution to music, videos, and even fashion. As a proud child of the '80s, I have so many fond memories of the Thriller era when Michael virtually ruled the world and earned the nickname "The King of Pop." Neither I nor virtually anyone else alive at the time could get enough of the phenomenon. Several of Michael's posters adorned my bedroom walls. I proudly sported my "Beat It" T-shirt as often as I could. I even covered my one-time favorite Shirt Tales lunchbox with Michael Jackson stickers (thanks, Mom, for allowing me to purchase them from the gumball machine!). And in addition to the Michael Jackson folders that I used for my schoolwork, every week during my entire second grade school year, when it was my turn for Show and Tell, I shared something about Michael Jackson. Talk about being a dedicated fan!
These days there are many who blithely dismiss Michael and all of his musical achievements simply because of the string of recent mishaps in his personal life, which unfortunately have kept him front and center in the media (i.e., child molestation charges, nearly tossing his kid named "Blanket" over a hotel balcony, rumblings of bankruptcy, etc.). None of those private woes, however, can dampen the impact the man has had on music and culture throughout the world. During the 1980s, simply put, Michael Jackson ruled the world. From L.A. to K.C., from Berlin to Sydney, fans young and old around the globe watched his every move with baited breath, and we couldn't wait to do our best to imitate. And if imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery, then Michael continues to be honored like no other celebrity ever has before. Without the "gloved one," there'd be no Justin Timberlake, Usher Raymond or Chris Brown. Each of these young pop stars of today was clearly inspired by Michael and owes him a huge debt for paving the way.
Michael is a true American icon and he deserves to be honored time and again for his incredible contribution to popular music and culture today, tomorrow, and eternally. There's never been anyone like him before, and in the 25 years since he first commanded the world stage, there's yet to be anyone who even comes close to taking his place
